Mawingu Foundation Supports Better Services at Volunteer Nursing Home Through Reliable Connectivity

Volunteer Nursing Home in Wajir East is using reliable internet connectivity to support its daily work, from browsing and reporting to accessing online services.

Before connecting to Mawingu in October 2025, the facility experienced slow internet. This made it difficult to browse and carry out activities that depend on a reliable connection.

The change is now visible in the facility’s day-to-day work. Staff report faster browsing, improved connectivity, and better client satisfaction. The connection is also supporting reporting, making it easier for the facility to handle tasks that require internet access.

For the people at the facility, the benefit also comes down to cost. The nursing home identifies money saving as one of the changes that comes with having affordable internet connectivity.

When healthcare facilities get connected

Volunteer Nursing Home is part of a wider effort to bring reliable connectivity closer to healthcare institutions in underserved communities.

Mawingu Foundation has supported connectivity across 17 public health facilities in Makueni County, providing the infrastructure needed for digital health solutions to reach frontline health workers.

The Foundation has also expanded internet access to 25 clinics in Laikipia County, where connectivity supports healthcare facilities that previously had limited access to the internet.

The needs in each facility are different. For Volunteer Nursing Home, reliable internet supports browsing, reporting, and other activities that form part of its daily work.

From connection to everyday use

This is also reflected in Mawingu’s wider work with community institutions.

The Mawingu 2025 Impact Report records 480 new community anchor institutions connected during the year, including institutions such as schools and dispensaries. Mawingu also reaches 35,000 households and has expanded its network to 31 counties.

These numbers represent more than new connections. Each institution has its own reason for needing internet access and its own way of using it.

For Volunteer Nursing Home, the need is straightforward. Staff need a connection they can rely on when browsing, reporting, and accessing online services. Having that connection also helps the facility reduce some of the costs associated with getting online.

Mawingu CEO Farouk Ramji describes this approach simply:

“We seek to help our customers access new opportunities for work, education, entertainment, and social connections through the power of the Internet.”

For a healthcare facility, those opportunities can start with something as basic as being able to access information or complete an online report without struggling with a slow connection.

Supporting the work behind the service

Reliable internet may not be the service Volunteer Nursing Home provides to its clients, but it supports some of the work that happens behind that service.

Staff can browse faster. Reporting is becoming easier. Online services are more accessible. The facility also spends less on getting the connectivity it needs.

That is the role Mawingu internet plays in this story. It enables the nursing home to use digital tools more easily, while the facility focuses on the people it serves.

The experience in Wajir adds to Mawingu Foundation’s growing body of work connecting healthcare facilities and other community institutions across underserved areas.
