Mawingu Expands Connectivity to Kombani and Mpeketoni, Strengthening Digital Access along the Coast

Mawingu, a leading Internet Service Provider serving rural and peri-urban communities across East Africa, has expanded its network to Kombani in Kwale County and Mpeketoni in Lamu County.

The rollout continues Mawingu’s efforts to extend reliable internet access along Kenya’s Coast, where connectivity is increasingly shaping how communities learn, communicate, and participate in economic activity.

As digital adoption grows, stable internet access is becoming a key enabler of opportunity in both emerging and established towns. The expansion into Kombani and Mpeketoni reflects rising demand for dependable connectivity that supports everyday digital needs across households, schools, and businesses.

Mawingu currently operates in more than 31 counties across Kenya, connecting over 35,000 homes and businesses. The company remains committed to its long-term ambition of positively impacting 1,000,000 Africans by 2028 through inclusive and meaningful digital access.

Speaking on the expansion, Mawingu Chief Executive Officer Mr. Farouk Ramji said the new coverage areas reflect the company’s continued focus on reaching communities where connectivity is increasingly essential.

“Reliable internet is now central to how communities learn, work, and grow,” said Mr. Ramji. “Expanding into Kombani and Mpeketoni is part of our commitment to ensuring that more people can participate meaningfully in the digital economy.”

Kombani in Kwale County continues to experience steady residential and commercial growth, while Mpeketoni in Lamu County is emerging as a key local hub for trade, education, and communication. In both locations, increasing reliance on digital tools is driving demand for stable and affordable internet services.

Residents in Kombani and Mpeketoni can now access Mawingu’s broadband plans designed to support a wide range of digital needs, including learning, business operations, remote work, and everyday online connectivity:

  • 20 Mbps – KES 2,500
  • 30 Mbps – KES 3,000
  • 40 Mbps – KES 4,500

“Each new connection represents progress for a community,” Mr. Ramji added. “Our work remains focused on building networks that create long-term, meaningful impact.”

Mawingu continues to expand its footprint across Kenya while investing in network upgrades to improve speed, reliability, and overall user experience.

With Kombani and  Mpeketoni now connected, Mawingu strengthens its role as one of Kenya’s most impactful Internet Service Providers, delivering meaningful connectivity, one community at a time.
